November is NaPlWrMo

The Internet has given new life to many different genres of literature, from flash poetry and fiction writing to Smith Magazine‘s ongoing online component of its six-word memoirs.  It’s encouraging to know that there are also online communities promoting playwriting: Check out the website for NaPlWrMo, short for, you guessed it, National Playwriting Month.  November is just a day away, and when the clock strikes midnight on Saturday, NaPlWrMo will officially begin.  The contest ends at 11:59 PM on November 30.

It’s also NaNoWriMo–National Novel Writing Month. I signed up to finish that 2nd book.

Any idea why November for these events? The NaPlWrMo contest rules require the work not be preexisting, or I’d have more incentive to finish plays I’ve begun :-/ I’m brainstorming for new prompts right now.

I’m not sure. I hope NaNoWriMo doesn’t have that rule. I’m wanted to finish a draft of my Hemingway novel. Yikes!
